Coal policy statement
On 23 March 2021, the Welsh Government (WG) published a statement on how it will bring an end to the use and extraction of coal in Wales.
What does this mean to the end-user?
- The policy is designed to support Wales in meeting its net-zero targets
- It acknowledges that, in the short- to medium-term, coal continues to be required for some manufacturing processes
- However the policy sets out the expectation for a managed end to the use of coal in Wales
- End users still reliant on coal should ensure they are aware of the impact of the proposals on their operations
The Coal Policy statement is summarised here and published here. A summary of responses to last year’s consultation on the topic is available here.
